How to Appeal
If you disagree with the reconsideration decision made by the Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development Canada or the Canada Employment Insurance Commission regarding your application for benefits, you can file an appeal to the Social Security Tribunal (SST). Other individuals who are directly affected by the decision can also appeal.
The SST includes two levels of appeals:
- The General Division (first level of appeal) includes an Employment Insurance Section for Employment Insurance appeals and an Income Security Section for Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security appeals.
- The Appeal Division (second level of appeal) decides appeals of decisions made by the General Division.
To file an appeal with the SST complete and submit the appropriate application form or send the SST a letter.
