Appeals Submitted Before April 1, 2013

Employment Insurance appeals

  • The Employment Insurance Board of Referees will continue to hear appeals filed before April 1, 2013, and will issue decisions on these appeals no later than October 31, 2013.
  • The Employment Insurance Office of the Umpire will decide on all appeals it has heard by March 31, 2013, and decisions will be issued no later than March 31, 2014. Any appeals filed with the Office of the Umpire that were not heard by March 31, 2013 have been transferred to the SST.

Canada Pension Plan appeals

  • Canada Pension Plan Review Tribunals administered by the Office of the Commissioner of the Review Tribunals (OCRT), will decide on all appeals they have heard by March 31, 2013, and will issue their decisions on these appeals no later than March 31, 2014. Any appeals filed with the OCRT that were not heard by March 31, 2013 have been transferred to the SST.
  • The Canada Pension Plan Pension Appeals Board (PAB) will decide on all appeals it has heard by March 31, 2013 and will issue decisions on these appeals no later than March 31, 2014. Any appeals filed with the PAB that were not heard by March 31, 2013 have been transferred to the SST.

Old Age Security appeals

  • Old Age Security Review Tribunals administered by the OCRT will decide on all appeals they have heard by March 31, 2013 and will issue decisions on these appeals no later than March 31, 2014. Any appeals filed with the OCRT that were not heard by March 31, 2013 have been transferred to the SST.
  • The Federal Court will continue to hear and decide on all second level Old Age Security appeals it received by March 31, 2013. There are no deadlines for the Federal Court to decide on these appeals.

As of April 1, 2013, an appeal of a reconsideration decision by the Canada Employment Insurance Commission or Human Resources and Skills Development Canada must be filed with the Social Security Tribunal (SST).
